Phoenix Cup
Hi everyone!
We are once again back on the ice for another
great year of curling. And keeping with recent traditions, it is
time again for the 5th (!) Phoenix Cup.
For those of you who are new to the club, let me give you some
background:
We lost the original curling club to a fire in the late summer of
2007. We were homeless. The clubs around us generously invited us
to play on their ice for the upcoming season.
Those clubs are:
Glooscap (Kentville)
Wolfville
CFB Halifax
Chester
To celebrate and remember their generosity and
goodwill, we host a fun bonspiel and invite these clubs to send
teams to play in it.
It is a day of friendly competition and socialization, and usually
great food!
And speaking of food, I am looking for volunteers for the kitchen. We need someone to be the head honcho to organize the food, and then some helpers. If you are able to help with the ice, please contact Dave. Ditto for the bar – please contact Pidge.
The format for the Phoenix Cup is:
9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, November 24th.
There will be three 4-end games.
The price is $6 each (pay your skip, he/she pays us $24).
Lunch and snacks are provided.
There will be a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board soon. Teams will be made up after Nov 18th. If there are more people signed up than spots, we draw names. Except for the first year, I think everyone who has signed up has gotten to play. Spares are welcome! You do not have to be a super competitive curler to play – this is all about fun, so come on out all you newbies and get a taste of a bonspiel without all the pressure.
I hope to see you there!
